WORLD HEALTH DAY

Health is Wealth”, we all are aware of this famous quotation. A good nutrition, good sleep, physical activities are very necessary to maintain a good health and a healthier life. These will help in fighting illness and reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Staying healthy physically helps a person stay healthy emotionally too.  It is truly said that a ‘Good health is the greatest blessing of life’.
World Health Day reminds us of the importance of health for everyone. The World Health Organisation in 1948 held the first World Health Assembly and decided to celebrate 7th of April every year with effect from 1950, as World Health Day. The aim is to draw attention to a subject of major importance to global health each year. The WHO organizes international, regional and local events on 7th April related to a particular theme. This year’s theme of World Health Day is “Universal Health Coverage”, for everyone, everywhere.
Man makes history. Things that were once impossible are now made possible, from life-saving vaccines to eradication of diseases like chicken pox. The next historic achievement being right in front of us: health for all. Together we all can make universal health coverage possible. The world health day targets on all health-related issues. Since the day got established, it has worked on serious health issues including TB, polio, chicken pox, smallpox etc. It targets on all health-related issues on a global basis. Various programs are organized yearly by the WHO and other health-related organizations aiming to make the world a better and healthy place.
These organizations governmental and non-governmental organize programs in schools, colleges, universities and crowded places to draw the attention of people towards major health-related issues. They promote healthier living habits that increase the life expectancy of people. Activities like conferences, information display for children, exhibitions, marches, demonstrations, as well as free or easy access to medical tests for the people are made.

This year 2018 the World Health Day aims to inspire, motivate and guide UHC stakeholders. It will focus on universal health coverage for everyone everywhere ensuring essential quality health services.
But the first step towards health comes from self-awareness. We at home or work should keep in mind and take healthy actions ensuring good living habits. Like we should always try to stay germ-free by washing our hands. We should use disinfectant and keep our phones, laptops that we use frequently clean. A healthy breakfast is a must for everyone. Drinking clean water keeps us hydrated. A little exercise is a very good step towards a good health. Using stairs instead of the elevator is a good exercise. Healthy snacks, dry fruits raisins will help boost our immune system. These small steps can lead a big step towards healthy living.

World Health Day is just a reminder that tells us the importance of health and we should every day make sure we are living a healthy lifestyle.
